Toshiba Matsushita Display Announces
Development of low temperature p-Si TFT display allowing direct input on the screen

Input display with touch panel functions

Toshiba Matsushita Display Technology Co.,Ltd.(TMD) developed low temperature p-Si TFT display allowing direct input function (touch panel function) with a finger on the screen.

TMD pioneered world first crystal display (input display) technology which enabled display downloading pictures from monitor in April, 2003 by the fulfillment of SOG (System On Glass) technology, and succeeded touch panel functions through developing the technology.

Since the touch panel functions in themselves are incorporated on the glass by SOG technology, it is not necessary for attachment of the touch screen like the conventional display with touch input function as an external option, and enables thinner, smaller, and lighter.

Also, through improvement of high speed switching, light sensor, and signal processing, special and unique to low temperature p-Si, short time reading of information input and signal processing were achieved.
The developed input display with touch panel is anticipated in usage such as eliminating mechanical ten keys and having ten keys shown when necessary and touching input, and various product lines including business use are expected.

The technology will be announced at 11th Display Workshop(IDW’04) in Nigata from December 8 - 10.
