Toshiba Matsushita Display Announces Development Of
A Dynamic Display Power Optimization Driving Scheme
Enables Low Power TFT LCD Modules for Notebook Applications
 |
San Francisco, CA -- Toshiba Matsushita
Display Technology Co., Ltd.* (TMD) today announced the development of a
prototype TFT LCD module with a unique interface scheme to improve power
consumption in portable, battery powered notebook applications.
The solution utilizes a multi-field driving method, and includes TMD's
new LCD display control electronics matched to the next generation Intelâ
Centrinoâ
Duo mobile technology-based platform. Named Dynamic Display Power Optimizationä
(D2POä), TMD and Intel Corporation will showcase the technology at the
Intel Developer Forum, Moscone West Convention Center, San Francisco, March 7-9,
2006.
Mr. Katsuji Fujita, president and CEO of TMD, stated, "We are extremely
pleased to collaborate with Intel in this endeavor.
In its power-saving mode the new D2POä technology offers 15-32%
power consumption savings versus conventional schemes, based on our prototype
15" XGA TFT LCD module. This
technology will provide extended battery life and greater portability for
notebook users." Mr. Fujita
added, "TMD's goal is to bring these new, low-power TFT LCD modules to the
market in 2007."
"Achieving
the vision of all day battery life on laptop PCs is a key goal for Intel,"
said Keith Kressin, director of marketing, Intel's Mobile Platforms Group.
"Our work with TMD, a leader in low power displays for the notebook
industry, is focused on uniting the next generation low power LCD
panels with future generations of Intel Centrino Duo-based laptops to get
another step closer to that vision."
