Toshiba Matsushita Display Technology

Toshiba Matsushita Display Technology Co., Ltd. Acquires ISO14001^*1 Certification for
Environmental Management System for the Entire Company.

Toshiba Matsushita Display Technology Co., Ltd. (TMD) acquired ISO14001 certification, an internationally recognized standard for environmental management systems, in September 2006. The scope of the certification includes TMD's headquarters office, involved in management operations. Thus, all of six establishments of TMD, including one overseas production facility, have successfully acquired this certification.

TMD has been promoting a Green Management business strategy in an effort to continually reduce potential environmental impacts as resulting from TMD's business activities. To ensure that Green Management is properly implemented within the entire organization, TMD has been seeking to acquire ISO14001 certification. Implementation began with TMD's production sites, which presented the highest potential environmental impact. As a result TMD successfully acquired the certification for all production sites, including four (4) sites in Japan in 1997 and 1998, and also acquired certification for AFPD PTE., LTD., an overseas production site in Singapore in 2003, approximately one year after the start of full mass production there. TMD's headquarters office, a non-production site, has also been seeking to acquire ISO14001 certification for the management operations, and successfully acquired the certification in September 2006.

TMD has been promoting internal improvement of our manufacturing processes, based on our Environmental Management Policy, through: 1) our proprietary "SOG^*2 technology" that integrates external peripheral circuitry onto the glass surface of LCD; 2) our super-thin, super-lightweight, energy efficient TFT-LCD products; and 3) through development of the TFT-LCD production processes aimed at energy saving, reduction of greenhouse-gas emissions and other solutions for environmental protection. In line with this policy, TMD is developing highly advanced LCD panels, with special consideration given to environmental protection, starting with our production processes all the way through to our finished products. Making good use of the ISO14001 standard as a model environmental management system for centralized control of the entire company, TMD will continue to render greater service to society through our advanced environmental management policy under the environmental slogan of "Present Dream-Inspiring Displays to the Future," reflecting the essence of our corporate philosophy and management vision.

*1: ISO14001: An international voluntary standard for environmental management systems established in 1996 by the International Standards Organization (ISO). Every operating unit is eligible to acquire the certification when accredited by a qualified third party (certifying body) to meet the requirements of the standard through auditing of the organization and other environmental issues.

*2: SOG (System On Glass): A high-value adding technology that allows the integration of peripheral IC circuitry and many other additional functions into the LCD panel. It plays an important role in differentiating low-temperature poly-silicon (LTPS) technology from common amorphous-silicon technology used in LCD panels.
